All about the Reeves Pheasant
 
The Reeves Pheasant is native to China. The best know characteristic of the reeves is that males silvery white and chestnut barred tail can grow to over seven ft long. Reeves are very hardy and can tolerate both warm and cold climates. We have kept and bred Reeves in the same aviaries that house our ducks with no problems. While our reeves have never been aggressive toward any of our waterfowl they are often aggressive toward people. The male Reeves will breed with more than one hen and these birds are often kept in trios or quads. Birds are first year fertile, the hens nest on the ground in a shallow scrape. Clutches consist of 8-12 eggs and hatch in about 25 days. The chicks are easy to raise and present no special problems.
